Salty Pears Sculpture 2013
Salty Pears 2013 Fibreglass, timber, rope
approx. 218cm H incl. Stalks x 130cm round (each pear)
Salty Pears was made for the Swell Sculpture Festival 2013. It was Jillys first sculpture since leaving Art School in 1999. ‘The concept came from a drawing late one night of two pears that I added a bikini top to. This soon turned into prints and bags, and later t-shirts. Salty Pears the Painting was painted in 2012 with the background painted with a list of beach names that were all of significance to me. From the first drawing I knew it had to become a sculpture.’

ABOUT
The Pears were originally carved out of Styrofoam (mostly with a chainsaw) and then fibreglass moulds made for the Pears to be cast in fibreglass. The stalks are hand carved by Jilly from Camphor laurel branch. The rope is part of an old ferry rope found in an old chandlery in Fingal. Overall there was more than 300 hours work in them (and she still has the moulds so can make more sets).
Salty Pears Sculpture is currently stored in Burleigh, Qld. FYI (For anyone interested in purchasing them) they will be stripped and re-finished and painted again to restore them to original brilliance for their new home.
Paint is Automotive paint and will withstand weather (like cars, designed to be outside but will remain in showroom condition much longer if housed under shelter).
